If you have out of date or unwanted medicines, both prescription or over the counter drugs, don’t bin them or flush them.
You can take your unwanted or out of date medicines back to your Pharmacy for safe disposal, and it’s completely FREE.
Each year, enormous quantities of unused and expired medications are dumped into bins or flushed down toilets and sinks. The effects on the environment and human health are unclear but evidence is pointing to the presence of chemicals from prescriptions and over-the-counter medications in soil, drinking water and the surrounding environment. Just as proper medication administration is important, so is safe and cautious disposal.
If you have had sex without using contraception, or you think your contraception has failed, you may be able to use Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC). Every consultation is private and confidential and will be in a private consultation room. Our fully trained and accredited Pharmacist will supply EHC when appropriate to clients in line with the requirements of a locally agreed Patient Group Direction (PGD).
The PGD will specify the age range of clients that are eligible for the service; it may facilitate supply to young persons under 16 in appropriate circumstances. We will also provide support and advice to clients accessing the service, including advice on the avoidance of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) through safer sex and condom use, advice on the use of regular contraceptive methods and provide onward signposting to services that provide long-term contraceptive methods and diagnosis and management of STI’s. * Only available if commissioned in accordance with a local agreement.
No appointments needed, easily accessible location and just a quick consultation, we ensure a hassle free service to all our patients. Simply walk in and ask to speak to our friendly and professional pharmacist about the morning after pill.
Our pharmacist will need to see the person that the emergency contraception is intended for, and will need to ask a few questions regarding the patients’ medical history. This is done in the privacy of our consultation room and everything discussed is in complete confidence. The sooner you come to our pharmacy to take the morning after pill, the greater the chances of avoiding pregnancy.
If the Pharmacist feels like Levonelle One Step is not suitable for you, they will not give you the morning after pill, but advise you to see your health care professional.
We are one of the few pharmacies that are able to provide the morning after pill free of charge to patients who are aged 24 and under, and who meet the NHS criteria. Alternatively, the pill can be purchased privately from our pharmacy.

Erection problems (impotence) are very common, particularly in men over 40. It's usually nothing to worry about, but you should see a GP if it keeps happening.
Most men occasionally fail to get or keep an erection. Causes of erection problems can be stress, tiredness, anxiety or drinking too much alcohol, and it's nothing to worry about.
If it happens more often, it may be caused by physical or emotional problems.
Medicine such as sildenafil is often used by doctors to treat erectile dysfunction. It is also available from our pharmacy. You no longer need a prescription to get sildenafil. You can have a private consultation with our pharmacist to make sure it's safe for you to take it.

It allows people who inject intravenous drugs obtain clean sterile needles and syringes and safely dispose off the used needles and syringes. This service is in place to prevent people sharing or re using needles. It also reduces drug related harm and the transmission of blood borne bacterial and viral infections such as hepatitis B and C or HIV. The service is lead by a Pharmacist in a non-judgemental manner and may lead to the service user being referred to an appropriate drug treatment programme i.e. opioid substitute treatment in order to stop drug usage . Pharmacists can also advise on minimising the harms caused by drugs and sign post to support groups.
An MUR is an informal chat with your pharmacist to address and concerns you may have about your prescribed medicines. During an MUR your pharmacist will talk to you about the medicines you are taking, what they do, if they are working for you and if they are causing you any complications. The New Medicines Service (NMS) is a new scheme we offer to patients starting a new medicine for certain conditions. When presenting a prescription in the pharmacy for a medicine to treat one of the conditions listed as one suitable for the NMS, you pharmacist will invite you to have a chat with them, so the pharmacist can ensure you get the best from your new prescription.
Your pharmacist may also make some recommendations to you to ensure you achieve the best results from the medicine you take or the devices or appliances you use. You don’t need to make an appointment to have an MUR just pop into the branch of Delmergate you get your prescriptions from on a regular basis and ask to speak to the pharmacist
Patients in nursing homes usually have a number of co-morbidities and therefore take many medicines to manage the conditions appropriately. Medication administration error is more likely to occur in these settings than any where else. They rely on care home staff to administer the medicines for them. We understand how complicated and stressful this process can be for the staff in nursing homes and this is why we make this as simple and stress free as we possibly could. The Pharmacy team can supply each medicines in blisters for the residents according to the times that the medicines are due to be taken and MAR charts to correlate this. We deliver medicines on a monthly basis for the regular medicines as most of the homes operate in this systems and we make every effort to supply any urgent antibiotics and intermediate prescriptions on the same day subject to stock availability.
We pick up the monthly repeats THREE weeks before the cycle and deliver to the surgery and pick up the prescriptions from the surgery-in most cases they are directly sent to us through the EPS system. A week before the monthly medicines are due to be started we deliver the medicines to the care homes so that this gives the staff enough time to rectify any problems should it arise.
We provide a palliative care service. Palliative care drugs can sometimes be required quickly and this service ensures that there is appropriate access to a range of palliative care drugs, particularly outside of normal opening hours, and when treatment is needed urgently.
Many of the drugs used in palliative care are not usually used for other conditions and are often not stocked in community pharmacies. As a palliative care service provider we hold a stock of palliative care drugs for when needed right away. The service is suitable for patients receiving palliative care and those providing their care.
We keep records of all your prescriptions dispensed by us as well as records of other services we provide to you. This helps us check for possible problems, such as reactions between medicines and will help us deal with any queries you may have. Our computer allows us to keep these records. We are registered with The Information Commissioners Office and comply with the Data Protection Act and the NHS code of practice on confidentiality. If you want to discuss the records we keep, please ask to speak to a member of staff or the pharmacist.
We recommend you consider getting a flub jab If you don't qualify for an NHS vaccination but are:
This service is available on a walk in basis without an appointment and there is a charge but please call the pharmacy first.
Make life easier for yourself and let us order your prescription on your behalf. Simply let us know what repeat medicines you need, a few days before they run out, either in person, by phone, fax or email and we will arrange to collect it from your Doctor's surgery. We go daily to all the Doctors surgeries in our postcode. When we have collected your prescription it will be dispensed and waiting for you to collect at the pharmacy. We also provide a free local home delivery service for customers who are housebound or live in warden-controlled accommodation.
Pharmacy has become the central for delivering the substitute medicine for opioid dependence. Methadone and buprenorphine are the approved drugs used for the treatment of withdrawal symptoms. This is an important service provided by pharmacies to target misuse of illicit substances and prevent withdrawal symptoms and reduce risk to the patient. Before deciding to prescribe, a full assessment of the patient will be undertaken by the clinician and a care plan will be put in place and agreed with the patient and they will be assigned to a pharmacy.
The person supervising the consumption is normally the pharmacist who is competent. At induction there is a risk for over dose and the aim is to achieve an optimal dose for the patient. The pharmacy team will protect the patients confidentially and provide support in any way they can. Supervised consumption usually lasts for approximately three months although it can vary depending on the patient’s compliance level. The patient will have to attend the pharmacy to collect their dose, how often they will have to do this will depend on the the level of supervision required. If the patient misses three or more doses, they will be referred back to the prescriber before the next dose. A review needs to be performed as they will have lost their tolerance and will be at a risk of overdose. Therefore a new titration may need to be started. The need for supervised consumption will be reviewed on a regular basis. If treatment failure is identified, supervised consumption will be re-introduced.
